Trip to Tucson

I recently took a trip to Tucson, Arizona with my fiancee (Holleigh) to see her brother (Clint) and his wife (Rachel). We visited them last year when they lived in Phoenix. We loved Phoenix, so we were scared to go to Tucson and not like it as much.

I flew out of Kansas City after Holleigh as she went a day earlier. I was excited because she normally takes the window seat, and I was able to look out when I wanted and get some photos. It was super foggy that morning and the ground looked awesome.

Here is Clint. He is a great person and an awesome resource that we don't get to fully utilize since he lives 1,337 miles away. He just had a baby girl, Jessica Faith, and she will make her debut on the PBP Blog shortly. I really like this photo as it is a rugged portrait that matches his rugged personality.

The previous photo of Clint was taken on Mount Lemmon, and the following one was while we were driving down it. It's hard to tell with a small photo, but lining the closest bluff are saguaro cacti.

Holleigh and I took a photo drive in the downtown area, and I pulled into an empty lot to take some photos of this circular barb wire (I have a fascination of photos from inside it).

There were also some train tracks behind the lot and we went back there for some photos. While I was taking photos there were some kids skateboarding a little bit away, and Holleigh said I should go take some photos of them. I was feeling a little bit lazy and didn't want to bother them, but one of them yelled "TAKE MY PHOTO!" Now I felt obliged to go shoot them ;) I am glad they yelled at me as I got some good photos of them skating.

The following kid doing a kickflip over some boards is who I considered the leader of the crew. He is in the above photo in the middle. Shortest guy, but the loudest of them all; he was quite funny.

It was nice that they were out during sunset as the light was spectacular.

They were doing some kickflips off a ledge and I asked if one of them would jump over me.

I don't know what I was thinking when I asked them to do this.

Oh yeah, I was thinking this: "please run at my expensive camera gear with your skateboard and jump a few inches above it!" ;) Thankfully my gear survived and none of the skaters got hurt while I was there.

After we left the skaters the sun was about to disappear over the mountains so we hopped out for a couple more photos.

This is a photo of me going blind, I mean, a photo of the sunset through an electrical station. I really need to stop taking photos of sunsets and shots directly into the sun...not good for my eyes.

Luckily I had my camera on my lap or I would have missed this shot. Holleigh doesn't like me to have my camera within reaching distance when I am driving because shooting an SLR while driving can be dangerous. An SLR takes better photos when you use both your hands to shoot...so that means I have to use my knee to steer ;) I was at a stoplight here, so no worries.

SO, I was fearful of not enjoying Tucson as it was a smaller city than Phoenix. What I found is that while it's population is small, it's natural beauty is big. The whole town is surrounded by mountains that provide a beautiful backdrop to look at and I can't wait to take another trip out there.
